Attorneyship is, by the Constitution of the Republic of Slovenia, autonomous and independent part of system of justice. It is practiced by lawyers as legal professionals, who need to carry out that advocacy meets strict conditions. Attorneys must, as already mentioned, work autonomously and independently, and are responsible to their clients. The relationship between an attorney and his client is strictly confidential. Confidence of the client is a basic guideline that the attorney should take into account in his work. Everything that the client had entrusted him, or which he had confidentially found out, must be protected as strict secrecy and other persons or state authorities have no access to attorney file. The attorney is arising from his work and experiences and he advises on how to avoid disputes in court.

Accordingly, the attorney is usually needed even before the occurrence of a legal problem, that has to be solved before the courts, insurance companies, government bodies, or with the employer. But, of course, also when case at court can not be avoided.
